British cycling Paralympian Darren Kenny has been selected as one of the top six disabled sportspeople of the year.
Kenny, who returned from last year’s Beijing Paralympics with four gold medals and a silver in track and road cycling, has been nominated in the disability category of the Laureus World Sports Awards 2009.
Kenny was also on last year’s shortlist for World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability, along with fellow ParalympicsGB cyclist Sarah Storey.
Phil Lane, ParalympicsGB chief executive, said: “We are delighted for Darren that his achievements have been recognised with a nomination for such a prestigious award.
“Darren is a great ambassador for Paralympic sport in this country, and he epitomises the Paralympic spirit of hard work and determination.”
Nominees in other categories this year include Rafael Nadal, Michael Phelps, Usain Bolt and Britain’s Rebecca Adington.
